چکیده

The distribution in color and absolute magnitude is presented for 55,158 galaxies taken from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey in the redshift range 0.08 < z < 0.12, as a function of galaxy number overdensity in a line-of-sight cylinder of transverse radius 1 h−1 Mpc. In all environments, bulge-dominated galaxies (defined to be those with radial profiles best fit with large Sérsic indices) form a narrow, well defined color– magnitude relation. Although the most luminous galaxies reside preferentially in the highest density regions, there is only a barely detectable variation in the color (zeropoint) or slope of the color–magnitude relation (< 0.02 mag in 0.1[g − r] or [B − V ]). These results constrain variations with environmental density in the ages or metallicities of typical bulge-dominated galaxies to be under 20 percent. DASTWAR: a tool for completeness estimation in magnitude-size plane

Today, great observatories around the world, devote a substantial amount of observing time to sky surveys. The resulted images are inputs of source finder modules. These modules search for the target objects and provide us with source catalogues. We sought to quantify the ability of detection tools in recovering faint galaxies regularly encountered in deep surveys. Our approach was based on com...

zCOSMOS 10k-bright spectroscopic sample Exploring mass and environment dependence in early-type galaxies

Aims. We present the analysis of the U − V rest-frame color distribution and some spectral features as a function of mass and environment for a sample of early-type galaxies up to z = 1 extracted from the zCOSMOS spectroscopic survey. This analysis is used to place constraints on the relative importance of these two properties in controlling galaxy evolution. Methods. We used the zCOSMOS 10k-br...

The Effect of Environment on the Uv Color-magnitude Relation of Early-type Galaxies

We use GALEX (Galaxy Evolution Explorer) near-UV (NUV) photometry of a sample of earlytype galaxies selected in SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey) to study the UV color-magnitude relation (CMR). NUV − r color is an excellent tracer of even small amounts (∼ 1% mass fraction) of recent (. 1 Gyr) star formation and so the NUV − r CMR allows us to study the effect of environment on the recent star for...

The Dependence of Galaxy Colors on Luminosity

We analyse the B−Rc colors of galaxies as functions of luminosity and local galaxy density using a large photometric redshift catalog based on the Red-Sequence Cluster Survey. We select two samples of galaxies with a magnitude limit ofMRc < −18.5 and redshift ranges of 0.2 ≤ z < 0.4 and 0.4 ≤ z < 0.6 containing ∼ 10 galaxies each. We model the color distributions of subsamples of galaxies and d...

Environmental Dependence of Properties of Galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

We investigate the dependence of physical properties of galaxies brighter than Mr = −18.0 + 5logh in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) on environment, as measured by local density using an adaptive smoothing kernel. We find that variations of galaxy properties with environment are almost entirely due to the dependence of morphology and luminosity on environment. Because galaxy properties depe...
